If illegal drug use isn't enough of a problem, there is a newer form of drug use that is becoming increasingly popular. Not only have kids died from using synthetic drugs, these products are perfectly legal. It is time to force those who manufacture these products to take them off the market.
One can figure there are two categories of people who use these products. First, you will find those who erroneously assume that since they are legal, they are not dangerous. Second, you will find those who use them because they are easier to acquire than other substances. Kids in both categories are endangering their lives-- and lives have indeed been lost.
Young people who are not old enough to purchase a beer can simply walk into a store that sells synthetic drugs and buy whatever they want. This makes store owners or managers who offer these products as guilty as the manufacturers.
From what I heard and read from generations past, there have probably always been various "legal" products young people could experiment with. In Malcolm X's autobiography, he described using nutmeg for the purpose of "getting high." Some young people in the late '60s and early '70s found they could get a "high" from adding aspirin to a popular brand of soda. However, while nutmeg, aspirin, and soda have legitimate purposes, synthetic drugs do not. There is no legitimate purpose for manufacturing, selling, or using synthetic drugs. In the interest of the health and lives of young people, it is time to make manufacturing and selling these substances illegal.
